I’m always looking for new and interesting ways to make a few extra pennies from my websites and blogs.  A few weeks ago I came across a targeted advertising service called Chitika.  While it’s not easy to say, it is really easy to use, and it’s a form of advertising that looks similar to Google AdSense that can be used in addition to currently running AdSense ads.  Basically, with Chitika, you have the ability to add some additional advertising to your pages.

The best thing about Chitika is that their ads are mostly targeted at your search traffic.  The Chitika ads only appear for people who have found your website by a search from Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.  The Chitika ads show your visitor the search they performed to find your site (Bold text in Yellow box), then a few results based on that search term.  It’s contextual advertising that is related to a search that was made.  Great for helping your visitor find what they’re looking for, and great to help you generate a few ad clicks.

Pros & Cons

Pros:
You can set Chitika to appear for all visitors or just search traffic.
Chitika is contextual advertising, so your ads are targeted.
Chitka ads include a picture, so they’re more interesting than AdSense ads.
Chitika is in addition to Google AdSense.  You can add additional advertising.

Cons:
Search only ads aren’t seen by everybody.
The gray border can’t be turned off.  Less able to blend ads into pages.
Narrow range of advertisers.  Ads are contextual, but their network isn’t as big as AdSense’s.
Reporting isn’t great.  You can’t see results until the next day.

Overall, I think it makes a lot of sense to add Chitika to your website.  It’s unobtrusive to your regular visitors, it’s a possibility for additional revenue, and they’re really easy to add to your site.  Worth checking out.
